Overview & Description:
The Solar Energy Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable energy generation. The role supports sustainable energy objectives by diagnosing system issues, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring compliance with electrical, safety, and environmental standards. Through effective system performance and timely response to faults, the technician helps maximize energy output, system longevity, and operational continuity.
Responsibilities:
More specifically the role will include:
- Install, test, and commission solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including panels, inverters, batteries, and mounting structures.
- Perform routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on solar power systems.
- Monitor system performance, identify faults, and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control issues.
- Conduct electrical testing (voltage, current, insulation, grounding) to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Clean and maintain solar panels to maximize energy output.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and system performance data.
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and other technicians to support system upgrades and improvements.
Requirements:
Education:
- Diploma or Technical Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Solar Technology, Power Systems, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of relevant experience in solar installation, maintenance, or power systems.
Experience:
- Proven experience in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar power systems, inverters, batteries, and charge controllers.
- Good understanding of electrical wiring, power distribution systems, and safety standards.
- Experience working on telecom tower power systems (solar-hybrid, generator integration) is an advantage.
- Familiarity with preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
- Basic computer literacy for reporting and documentation (Microsoft Office is an advantage)
Additional Information:
- Strong technical troubleshooting and fault-diagnosis skills.
- Knowledge of solar panel installation standards and electrical safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and technical manuals. • Good reporting and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and in remote field locations.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures.
- Physically fit and capable of working at heights or in challenging environments.
- Flexible to work extended hours or respond to emergency maintenance calls when required.
