Overview & Description:

The Graduate Trainee - Environmental Impact and Innovation (GT-EII) is an entry-level career opportunity for recent graduates with degrees in environmental science or public health. The GT placement offers a platform on which recent graduates can translate their course of studies into practical job experience, thus contributing to the overall mission of TSAE.

The incumbent will play a crucial role in advancing sustainable waste solutions and initiatives while driving innovation within the organization. This position focuses on analyzing environmental impacts, developing sustainable practices, and implementing innovative solutions to reduce the company's ecological footprint, increase revenue through innovative value chain in waste management solutions, and serve as the focal person for the Company with external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

1. Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct comprehensive research on waste management practices, technologies, and policies.
  • Analyze environmental data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in environmental science and waste management.
  • Lead on the conduct of surveys targeting waste management companies to create a database on organizational structures, training and certifications in waste management, human resources and financial management, positions and compensation structures, amongst others.
  • Conduct research on possible value addition to the waste stream with a focus on waste oil recycling, waste to energy, biogas, composting, and others.

2. Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA):

  • Monitor consultants delivering EIA for projects and operations.
  • Review their reports and advise the management on the outcome of their assessments.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented mitigation measures.

3. Training and Development:

  • Develop and implement training programs for employees, customers, and schools on best practices in waste management, sustainability, and environmental protection.
  • Support in the creation of educational materials and resources to support ongoing training initiatives and online awareness.
  • Lead on awareness campaigns in waste management and environmental protection.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make improvements as necessary.

4. Waste Innovation:

  • Identify and evaluate new technologies and innovative practices for waste reduction, recycling, and resource recovery.
  • Lead pilot projects to test and implement innovative waste management solutions.
  • Collaborate with research institutions, industry partners, and other stakeholders to drive innovation in waste management.
  • Assist in developing strategies to promote and integrate sustainable practices within the company's operations.

5. Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare regular reports on environmental performance, research findings, and project outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of all environmental assessments, training activities, and innovation projects.
  • Communicate results and progress to senior management and other stakeholders.

6. Community and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with the local community, NGOs, and other stakeholders to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
  • Represent the company at environmental forums, conferences, and public meetings.
  • Foster partnerships and collaborations to support the company's environmental goals.

7. Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor industry trends and advancements in environmental science and waste management.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the company's environmental practices.
  • Recommend and implement changes to enhance the company's environmental performance and sustainability initiatives.

Requirements:

Academic and Technical Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in environmental management, sustainability, or a related field.

Skills, Competencies & Experience:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance.
  • Computer literate with strong ability to MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
