Overview & Description:
The Chief Accountant will oversee the Accounting Department and manage all financial operations. The role requires a strong background in accounting principles, financial management, and leadership. The position also requires strategic thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, including financial statement preparation, reconciliation, and analysis.
- Review and approve journal entries, adjustments, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Coordinate and liaise with external auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory agencies to facilitate audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and financial performance metrics to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to senior management to support business decisions and initiatives.
- Mentor, coach, and develop accounting staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Stay updated on accounting standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in financial management processes.
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is an added advantage. Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA,) is required.
Experience:
- Proven experience as a Chief Accountant or similar role, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and financial management. Experience with Telcos is an added advantage
